The Camosun Chargers Men’s Golf Team is celebrating their first win of the season after shooting their way to victory at the VIU Invitational in Nanaimo this past weekend.

The Chargers won the exhibition event with a two-day team score of 630. Camosun finished two strokes ahead of Douglas College, and 13 from the hosting VIU Mariners who placed third.

Third-year Charger Alex Cordero (Sport Management) led Camosun to victory with his two-day total of 148. Cordero was one stroke off Douglas College’s Travis LeClair, who shot 147 to finish as the Men’s Individual Leader.

This weekend, the Chargers will have the home course advantage as they tee off against their PACWEST adversaries at the Camosun Open at Highland Pacific Golf Course (September 21-22).

On the men’s side of the draw, Camosun welcomes teams from Douglas, VIU and Langara. VIU fields the lone PACWEST women’s team who will hit the links with two individual players from the Langara Falcons.

Tee times are set for 1:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament is a precursor to the 2019 PACWEST Provincial Championships which will be hosted by Douglas College at the University Golf Club in Vancouver, September 27-29.

Winners will advance to the CCAA National Championships hosted by Andre-Laurendale (RSEQ), October 14-18.
