What a finish at the PACWEST golf championship on Sunday.

On the men’s leaderboard Mitch Turko clawed his way back down four strokes coming into today’s final round in which he shot a 73 to catapult him to his first PACWEST title. His overall three-round PACWEST score was a 227 just one stroke better than three other golfers.

Josh Legge (74) of the host Douglas Royals, John Jamieson (77) of the Langara Falcons and Alex Cordero (78) of the Camosun Chargers all shot great over the course of the weekend, but came up just one stroke short. All three finished with a 228 to capture PACWEST silver.

The bronze medal is also heading to the Island as Charger Simon Hassel shot a 77 on Sunday and a 229 over the weekend.

The PACWEST team gold medal once again belongs to the Chargers after finishing with a three day total of 930. The Mariners were only nine strokes back with a 939, the Royals finished third with a combined 958 and the Falcons finished shooting 963.

On the women’s leaderboard Alex Foston of the VIU Mariners wins her second straight PACWEST title shooting an 84 on Sunday and finished with a tournament score of 251. Her teammate Victoria Ross came on strong in the final round shooting a 77 and a weekend total of 261 to capture the silver while Mariah Netzer also of the Mariners wins bronze with a 266. Natalee Okamura of the Falcons in her first PACWEST championship tournament finished with a 335.

Not since the 2011 and 2012 golf season has there been a back to back women’s PACWEST champion. The last to do so was Kate Weir of the Douglas Royals.

Next up for the champions is the CCAA national championship in Quebec from October 14-18th.
