For the second time in three seasons the Douglas Royals are PACWEST champions after a 1-0 victory over the top seeded VIU Mariners.

After a scoreless first half that saw back and forth play, the lone goal was finally scored in the 76th minute when Yianni Siafakas scored giving the Royals the lead.

From there the defence and keeper Felipe Domingos took over making all six saves directed at him. He also made six saves in yesterday’s semi-final keeping the Capilano Blues off the board. He was a difference maker not allowing a single goal in the PACWEST championship.

The PACWEST receives two berths at the CCAA national championship tournament so the Royals will be the PACWEST seeded team while the Mariners will be a wildcard. The last time the Mariners were in the national championship, they hosted and won just two years ago. The Royals on the other hand have not won national gold since 2005. The tournament begins November 6th in Durham Ontario.

Following the game the tournament awards were handed out.

Tournament MVP – Rafael Domingos – Royals
Top Goalkeeper – Felipe Domingos – Royals
Top Defender – Grayson Chalifoux – Mariners
