Maybe the last person left in the great state of Texas should turn the lights out.

The University of Texas contingent slated to pull on HarbourCats uniforms this summer has grown by three with today’s announcement of two pitchers, lefty Thomas Burbank and righty Justin Eckhardt, and infielder Peter Geib.

They join infielder Tanner Haney, who is embarking on his third season in Victoria — son of Head Coach Todd Haney. The elder Haney and new pitching coach Mark Petkovsek went to the College World Series with the Longhorns in their playing days, before combining to play 14 years at the MLB level.

“It’s a storied program, one we obviously know well, and we’re happy to have Peter, Thomas and Justin coming to join us this summer,” said Coach Haney. “These can be impact guys for us with the HarbourCats, and it will be a pleasure helping them develop further in front of our fans.”

Geib, 6-2/215, is a sophomore right-handed hitter from Houston, was all-state and a state champion as a high school senior. Linebacker size — played three years at that position at Episcopal high school.

Eckhardt, 6-2/200, is a redshirt-freshman right-hander from Sealey, Texas, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery and was a three-sport star (baseball as an outfielder/pitcher, along with football and track as a state-finalist high-jumper) in high school.

Burbank, 6-2/215, is a redshirt-freshman lefty from Mark Petkovsek’s hometown of Beaumont, Texas. Burbank played for Petkovsek at Monsignor Kelly Catholic and was named top relief pitcher for Team USA at the World Cup in 2014, part of the USA Baseball national development team all through high school.
