Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Huskies Football Foundation has made the difficult decision to officially cancel the 2020 Dogs’ Breakfast.

An annual fundraiser for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies football team, the breakfast was initially postponed from April 30 to September 3 before being cancelled Tuesday.

With past speakers including Russ Jackson, Warren Moon, Henry Burris and many more, the Dogs’ Breakfast has raised over $1.6 million in support of a Huskie football team that has won 19 Hardy Cup championships, the most in the storied trophy’s history.

The cancellation unfortunately brings an end to a streak of 19 consecutive editions of the Dogs’ Breakfast, with the inaugural even taking place in 2001.

The Dogs’ Breakfast organizing committee has been working hand in hand with the University of Saskatchewan to closely monitor developments since social distancing and mass gathering protocols were put in place by the Government of Saskatchewan in March,” said Doug Siemens who – along with son Parker – is co-chair of the 2020 Dogs’ Breakfast committee. “While a difficult decision, it was necessary for the safety and well-being of all Dogs’ Breakfast patrons.”

“With Coach Flory’s vision for the Huskie Football program the support of our community, ticket buyers and sponsors remains paramount. We are looking forward to Dogs’ Breakfast in the spring of 2021,” said Siemens who sits fifth in Huskie history in career passing yards, just behind his other son Kyle.
