Alberta SoccerJune 26, 2013, Alberta (ISN) – The Alberta Major Soccer League (AMSL), the only league administered by the Alberta Soccer Association will go ahead with games that were scheduled for tonight in Calgary despite the flooding that has impacted the city.

Weather has been the major story of the League so far this season with 13 games postponed due to rain of the 54 that were scheduled. Although the floods forced the cancellation of all games in Southern Alberta this past weekend, two games will go ahead tonight at Broadview Park in Calgary upon the insistence of all teams in a bid to return to normalcy from the floods. The Calgary Alliance takes on Lethbridge FC at 7 PM on the Women's side and the Calgary Callies will face the Calgary Dinosaurs at 9 PM on the Men's side.

Teams will also experience roster shifts as many players in the League will head to the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia (July 6-17). Eight Albertans will play on the Women's Universiade team while four Albertans will play on the Men's Team.

On the men's side, Edmonton Green & Gold sits atop the standings with 13 points of a possible 21 with four teams following closely behind including the Edmonton Drillers, Calgary Callies, Lethbridge FC and Edmonton Scottish. The scoring leaders board is a very different look from last year with Dexter Maclachlan (Scottish), Darlington Sackor (Green & Gold) and Michael Pavicic (Croatia Dinamo) in the top three.

On the women's side, last year's champions Edmonton Victoria have jumped to an early lead at the top of the table with 19 points followed by Edmonton Northwest United and Calgary Callies. The Red Deer Renegades have also seen a jump in performance from past years led by league leading goal-scorer Paula Dadensky. Edmonton Victoria has also produced three of the top goal scorers including Heather Young, Heather Lund and Laura Kautz.

Teams and players have been hard at work implementing a new Digital Ambassador program that uses Social Media to target new and existing fans about all the happenings around the league. A full 2013 Schedule is available at http://www.albertamsl.com/Games_Schedules.aspx.  Media interested in AMSL matches are invited to attend and conduct interviews at all AMSL matches. All schedules, results and standings can be found on our AMSL website at www.albertamsl.com
