frontrunnerslogoFebruary 19, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The fourth race in the Frontrunners Island Race Series – Hatley Castle 8K – takes place on Sunday, February 24 at 11 am.

The race starts and finishes at Royal Roads Gymnasium, 2005 Sooke Rd, Victoria and is hosted for the second year by Frontrunners Athletic Club.

Runners can register online until midnight, Wednesday February 20 at www.vira.bc.ca, or on Saturday at Frontrunners Westshore, #123, 755 Goldstream Avenue, Langford or on race day. Race registration until February 20 is $25 for adults and $20 for students. Race day fees are $35 and $30 for students.

"We are looking forward to another great year. We are sitting just under 500 entries this year and expect to see another 30-40 registrations come in this week," says Race Director Nick Walker. "We have Geoff Martinson of Newport Realty attempting to break the course record. He has had a tremendous start to the Frontrunners Island Race Series, winning the first two events and breaking the course record for Cobble Hill 10K. We are again excited to have the Langford Fire Fighters helping out and bringing their portable BBQ and will be serving free hot dogs for the participants and taking donations for Muscular Dystrophy."

Prairie Inn Harriers lead the club standings, with Bastion Running Club second and Comox Valley Road Runners third.

Eight races make up the Frontrunners Island Race Series. Hatley Castle 8K will be followed by Synergy Health Management Ltd Bazan Bay 5K on March 10, Comox Valley RV Half Marathon on March 24, Merville 15K on April 7, and Sooke River 10K on April 21. Synergy Health Management Ltd Bazan Bay 5K and the Comox Valley RV Half Marathon are part of the Timex BC Series. All races are sanctioned by BC Athletics. Registration is now online at www.vira.ba.ca. Historical results from races dating back to 1980 from previous race series can be seen on www.pih.bc.ca.
