HighlandersLogoJune 15, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) - The Highlanders faced North Sound Sea Wolves for the second time this season on another sunny evening in Victoria Friday night. 1379 fans cheered on the Highlanders as they defeated the SeaWolves 3-1 for their second win in a row.

The SeaWolves were aggressive early, hitting a post and forcing Highlander goalkeeper Elliot Mitrou to make his first save before the clock had hit the one-minute mark. The SeaWolves would get another great opportunity at the five-minute mark, hitting the crossbar again.

Minutes later, at the 10-minute mark, Brett Levis sprung forward Craig Gorman, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, shifting to the left and then firing it into the open net to put the Highlanders up 1-0, earning him his first goal of the 2013 season. The Highlanders kept up the pressure, with Gorman receiving the ball in front of the net he made a heads-up play to Blair Sturrock who picked his shot and fired it into the back left of the net in the 24th minute.

Following the Highlanders second goal, the SeaWolves stepped up their play and looked to be the more aggressive team, save for a couple chances by the Highlanders. The SeaWolves chances included a free kick that failed to connect. Bradley Jacobson was the most dangerous player for the SeaWolves, firing a total of five shots in a first half that would end with the home team up 2-0.

To open the second half, Levis passed to Gorman who in turn fed it to Jordie Hughes, however the play would fail to produce, keeping the Highlanders lead at 2-0. Jacobson continued to be the most active player in the second half for the SeaWolves, firing two more shots—he would finish with seven on the game.

The Highlanders lead looked threatened when at 83-minutes, David Durrant received a volley from Braxton that he volleyed over Mitrou, cutting the Highlanders lead to 2-1 with less than ten minutes remaining.

In stoppage time, Hughes would receive the ball from a throw-in, quickly firing a shot from a sharp angle that beat the SeaWolves goalkeeper. The Durrant goal would be the only goal allowed by the Highlanders in the second half, who would hold on to win their second game in a row, bringing their win total to five on the season.

Yellow Cards were handed out in the second half for the Highlanders Riley O'Neill and Gavin Barrett while the SeaWolves' Nick Hamer was assessed a yellow card in the 63rd minute and a red Card late in the half, following a foul against Brett Levis.

Both Levis and Sturrock appeared to have goals in the second-half, but both players were ruled offside by the game official.

The Highlanders now head on a road trip, beginning with a rematch against North Sound, Friday, June 21 at 7 pm at Edmonds Stadium. For more information please visit www.victoriahighlandersfc.com
