rocc jan16VICTORIA, BC - The Ryan O'Byrne Youth Sports Society is pleased to announce the creation of the Ryan O'Byrne Charity Camp (ROCC), an Atom and Pee-wee hockey camp in Victoria B.C to be held the first week of August 2012. All profits from the camp will be given to KidSport Victoria on behalf of the Ryan O'Byrne Youth Sports Society.

Local media are encouraged to join Ryan O'Byrne at the University of Victoria's Ian Stewart Complex Arena on Thursday, January 26th, at 11 A.M. as he joins local youth from across our community for 30 minutes of skills and drills. Ryan will be available for questions and comments during that time.

Ryan O'Byrne is an NHL defenseman who has played four seasons with the Montreal Canadiens and is currently in his second season with the Colorado Avalanche. O'Byrne grew up playing hockey for the Victoria Racquet Club in Victoria before playing his junior hockey with the Victoria Salsa and Nanaimo Clippers in the BCHL. Ryan continued his journey to the NHL by accepting a scholarship in the NCAA at Cornell University, before turning professional in 2007/08.

Ryan established the Ryan O'Byrne Youth Sports Society as an opportunity for him to give back to the community by raising funds to enable under privileged kids to get involved in sports. His hope is that sports can have the same positive effects on their development as it did in his life.

The ROCC will be led by Max Young, a local certified hockey instructor/junior coach and will be complimented by several guest NHL players. Names to be released at a later date.

The hockey instructors, NHL players, support staff and Board of Directors have all volunteered their time to this worthwhile cause, and are looking forward to making a positive impact on children in the community.
