The Skills Competiton and 3 on 3 Challenge kicks off proceedings at the 2012 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game today at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

The top 40-ranked CHL players for this summer’s NHL Entry Draft are in Kelowna for the Top Prospects Game over the next two days, beginning with the skills competition tonight at Prospera Place (7 p.m.)

Kelowna Rockets captain Colton Sissons will take part in the Show-Down Breakaway event while Rockets blueliner Damon Severson will take part in the fastest skater event.

Teams skated in two spirited practices on Monday with honorary coaches Pat Quinn and former NHLer Mark Recchi both taking to the ice with their respective teams.

Recchi is joined on the bench by Rockets head coach Ryan Huska while Quinn is joined by Vancouver Giants and Team Canada head coach Don Hay.

With over 250 NHL scouts, including general managers and directors of scouting, the event is a showcase of this year’s draft making the skills competition that much more important, as players try to catch the eye of NHL teams.

Wednesday’s game is expected to be intense, as players battle to try and improve their draft ranking.

It makes for what should be two days of entertaining hockey that features the cream of the crop of NHL draft eligible players in the Canadian Hockey League.

Tickets for the skills competition have been reduced to just $10 at or by calling 250-762-5050.
