(ISN) – The International Rugby Board has launched a new Twitter service for members of the media.
The IRB has implemented an extensive digital and social media strategy for key stakeholders that embraces the Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube platforms to engage fans and promote events.
Last year the Rugby World Cup 2011 digital strategy was voted Best Event platform of 2011 by Sport Business, with its Facebook site attracting over 1.5 million ‘likes’ and the official application downloaded 3.5 million times.
The Rugby World Cup Twitter account surpassed 100,000 followers, while there have also been more than five million upload videos on the RWC YouTube channel, and all of these platforms will continue to play an important role moving towards RWC 2015 and on other IRB tournaments.
