Shamrocks Take 9 in Junior Player Draft

The Western Lacrosse Association 2019 draft of graduating Junior lacrosse players was held Thursday night, with the Victoria Shamrocks using all nine of their picks, including an additional 4th round pick acquired from New Westminster. Additionally, the Shamrocks were able to keep five graduating Victoria Junior A players at home, taking them in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th rounds.

General Manager Chris Welch was happy with the overall results of the draft: “It was exciting, they’re always exciting. While it was a little bittersweet to see three Victoria guys go right in front of us, but we’re proud of them and happy for them, and we’re happy with the guys we got with our picks.”

Head Coach Bob Heyes was also happy with the results: “The guys we did get we are extremely happy with, in Keegan Bell we got a big right-hander who can step right into the lineup and in Larson Sundown a dynamic left-hander who we think will become a fan favourite.”
