The Vancouver Giants are going home with five of six possible points from the Victoria Royals. Sunday afternoon at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre the Vancouver Giants (41-14-2-2) defeated the Victoria Royals (31-25-2-2) in overtime 2-1.
Bowen Byram scored his WHL-leading fourth overtime winning goal 59 seconds into overtime, moving the Giants back within two points of first place in the Western Conference standings.
Davis Koch assisted on both Giants goals while Trent Miner stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced. Phillip Schultz had Victoria’s lone goal in response while Brock Gould made 28 saves in the Victoria net..
Three-in-Three: Yesterday’s game marked the Victoria Royals’ last three games in three nights situation this season. In the final contest of a three-in-three, the Royals posted a record of 1-1-1-0.
Series Recap: This contest was the Royals’ and Giants’ regular season series finale. With the overtime loss, Victoria posted an overall record of 4-4-2-0, with a mark of 3-1-1-0 on home ice, against the BC Division leaders.
The Royals will be back in action as they will wrap up their four-game homestand on Friday March 1st, and Saturday March 2nd to face the Prince George Cougars.
