Female Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Karoline Tormena – VIU Mariners
The PACWEST Athlete of the Year showed why she received that honour last week. Despite flu symptoms the night before their semi-final match she was outstanding on the floor with 11 kills, eight digs, two blocks and two service aces. In the gold medal match she was feeling much better and peeled off 12 kills, nine more digs and two blocks. In all this past weekend she collected 23 kills, 17 digs, four blocks and two service aces and was named the tournament MVP.
Male Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Doug Groenendijk – VIU Mariners
He was a one man wrecking crew this past weekend playing so tough at the net. He collected an unbelievable 28 blocks in three matches helping the Mariners to a PACWEST gold medal. He also finished with 17 kills, seven digs and two service aces.
