The PACWEST champion VIU Mariners blasted through the OCAA’s wildcard Humber Hawks  in a three-set sweep advancing to the semi-final.

The Mariners picked up where they left off in the PACWEST championship tournament and added 11 more blocks in their quarterfinal victory. Offensively Vedran Obradovich had a team high 11 kills while Braydon Brouwer added 10. Setter Keal Prince was named the Player of the Match with 27 assists, a kill, three aces and five digs.

In the semis they will have the daunting task of facing the host Red Deer Kings in front of what should be a large crowd. The Kings took out the defending champion Titans de Limoilou in three straight including an impressive 25-11 victory in the first set. The CCAA Player of the Year Regan Fathers led the Kings with 14 kills and Adam Turlejski collected 12.

These two schools met in this very same semi-final in 2017 when the Kings beat the Mariners in four sets.

They will meet at 7:00pm PST with the winner moving onto the gold medal match on Saturday.
