For the first time since 2007 the VIU Mariners score a CCAA medal winning bronze on Saturday with a thrilling five set victory over the Keyano Huskies.

The Mariners struck first winning the first two sets before the Huskies came roaring back to win the next two including an incredible 30-28 fourth set victory. That win set up a fifth and deciding set.

The Huskies jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the fifth set before the Mariners bounced back and tied it at 14. A timeout was called before the Mariners scored the final two points to win bronze 16-14.

Braydon Brouwer once again led the offence with 19 kills and 13 digs. Doug Groenedijk was terrific out of the middle with 15 kills, four digs and three blocks and Jeff Webb elevated his game to finish with 11 kills and 13 digs.

This is the fourth CCAA medal for the Mariners men’s program and first bronze since 1995.
