The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team were faced with a quick turnaround this week. After completing their final round of the Battle at Primm tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 19 in Nevada, the Vikes then traveled down to California for the Desert Intercollegiate which began on Sunday Mar. 24 in Indio.

The short break between tournaments didn’t seem to have much effect on men’s golfer Robin Conlan. The first-year out of Germany posted a 5-under score through two rounds at the Terra Lago Golf Club to finish second overall in the individual standings of the tournament. Conlan finished just two strokes behind leader Mayson Tibbs from Oregon Tech.

RESULTS

Conlan, born and raised in Berlin, finished as the top Vike for the third consecutive tournament.

“Robin really carried the squad this week,” commented Vikes head coach Justin Clews. “His play was able to keep our team within striking distance of the tournament title and had an excellent tournament in all aspects of his game. He was in the hunt all day during the final round but unfortunately came up just short to the winner who played an error free round of golf to finish off the tournament.”

As a team, the Vikes finished in third place behind second place Oregon Tech and first place Texas Wesleyan. Josh Miller finished as the second best Vike posting a +6 (150) to finish 11th in the individual standings. Rounding out the scores for Victoria was John Morrow who finished tied for 23rd with a score of +9 (153), Max Murchison who shot +10 (154) finishing tied for 28th and Jake Hamilton who shot +14 (158) to finish in a tie for 44th.

“Unfortunately the guys couldn’t make a move up the standings on the final day,” added Clews. “Too many big scores kept us out of contention but I am still very proud of the effort the team put in this week. They never stopped battling.”
