VICTORIA- The University of Victoria Vikes men’s basketball team are pleased to announce the commitment of Dominick Oliveri, Adam Francolini, Quinn Campbell and the return of Greg Wint for the 2019-20 season.

Dominick Oliveri will move across the border next fall to begin his career as a Vike. Born and raised in Spokane, Washington, Oliveri stands at six-foot-seven and has plenty of experience that Vikes head coach Craig Beaucamp hopes will translate to success on the floor at CARSA.

“We were looking to get deeper in our front line and Dominick adds to our depth with his size and athleticism,” commented Beaucamp. “He will bring experience to our line up having played at Western Washington University and Whatcom Community College. One thing that excites us about Dominick is his commitment to training. He has already notified us that he will be coming to Victoria early in the summer to begin preparing for the season.”

The 21-year-old Oliveri plans to study Commerce or Economics when he begins his studies at UVic next fall.

“I am very excited to begin my first year in Victoria,” said Oliveri. “The Vikes have a rich history that is full of success and it is something I wanted to be part of. Academically, UVic has multiple programs that interest me and having an extra year of eligibility will allow me to work towards a Masters degree. The coaching staff and campus facilities are outstanding. I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity to further my athletic career.”

Adam Francolini will join the Vikes in fall as he makes the move from Ontario to start his basketball career in Victoria. Francolini was considered to be one of the top players in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association last year and led his TRC Academy Wolfpack team to its second consecutive league championship. The Oakville, Ont. native also earned the OSBA and TRC Basketball Academy All-Academic awards in 2017 and 2018.

“Adam will bring a lot of versatility with his six-foot-six frame and his ability to shoot and rebound the ball. He has the ability to play both the small and power forward positions in our league,” stated Beaucamp.

“I am both thankful and honoured to be attending the University of Victoria next year and joining the Vikes varsity basketball program,” expressed Francolini. “UVic had the best campus of all the ones I visited and offers a great business program where I have the opportunity to experience the co-op program. It was important for me to study at a school with a good reputation and a strong sense of school spirit. I am very excited to begin working with the coaches Craigh and Josh Mullen and the rest of the coaching staff.”

Quinn Campbell will be making the longest journey of all the recruits to join the Vikes next fall. Campbell will move from Sydney, Australia to begin his post-secondary athletic career in Victoria. With his mother originating from Bathurst, New South Whales and his father being from Melfort, Saskatchewan, Quinn holds citizenship in both Australia and Canada. Campbell represented New South Whales Metro at the 2017 Australian National Championships and was also invited to the 2018 NBA Global Academy prospect camp.

“Quinn has a high basketball IQ and can really shoot the ball,” stated Beaucamp. “He already has experience playing against both professional and division one players in Australia. Quinn has the ability to play both on and off the ball, which makes him a great fit with our current group. Quinn is someone who exhibits all the attributes we are looking for in our athletes; a good student, strong player and high character.”

Upon his arrival to the University of Victoria campus next year, Campbell plans to study Humanities and Business.

“I fell in love with the city and campus right away during my visit in December of 2018,” said Campbell. ” Victoria ticked all the boxes when it came to athletics, academics, environment and culture. I cannot wait to get on the court for the Vikes and contribute to a young and exciting group of players led by an experienced coaching staff.”

The 2019-20 season will also be the first for Greg Wint. The Winnipeg native stepped away from the Vikes in the fall of the 2018-19 season due to personal reasons after committing last spring. Wint, a six-foot-six guard-forward will join the Vikes this year after playing his high school basketball with the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox, Saskatchewan.

“Greg will bring athleticism, versatility and toughness to the Vikes next year and is an exciting first-year player for the team,” stated Beaucamp.

With the announcement of these players, and the earlier commitment of Oak Bay standout Diego Maffia, the Vikes have put together an outstanding recruiting class for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.
