Vancouver Island Football Club selected the first three players to the new team’s roster.
Alexis McKinty, Liz Gregg and Mariel Solsberg were named to the roster by coaches Neil
Sedgwick and Wes Barrett.

Liz Gregg, originally of Cortez Island and University of Victoria graduate, started her
professional career with the Coco Expos in Florida, later with the England’s
Doncaster Rover Belles 2007-2009.

Alexis McKinty, played with Queens women’s soccer 2009 – 2014 is a talented
mid-fielder who brings speed and skill to the VIFC. McKinty commented, “I think
that having experienced high pressure, high stakes games in my collegiate career
will help me rise to the challenge of facing some quality opponents in the WPSL
league.”

Mariel Solsberg played professionally in Denmark for Fortuna Hjorring and Sonderjysk 2006-2008, previously a University of Victoria women’s soccer player. “I am incredibly exciting about the opportunity to play for Vancouver Island FC and contribute to the growth of female soccer in our community.”

The three live in Victoria and are excited for the opportunity to compete against top notch American teams such as Seattle Sounders Women and Portland Timbers in the Women’s Premier Soccer League, the largest women’s soccer league in the world.

Two more tryouts are scheduled for April 24 and 25. Season begins in May.
