The Sudbury Lady Wolves are set to welcome the nation’s best to the 2019 Esso Cup, April 21-27.

The host Lady Wolves, who also won the Ontario Region title, will be joined at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex by four regional champions – the Halifax Fire (Atlantic), As de Québec (Quebec), St. Albert Slash (Pacific) and Saskatoon Stars (West) – as well as the Stoney Creek Sabres, who finished as runner-up at OWHA provincials and will be the Ontario representatives.

The field is full of experience – the Slash have won the last two national championships, the Lady Wolves took gold in 2015, the Stars are back for the fourth time in five years and the Fire have nine players who played with host Metro Boston Pizza in 2018.

“Sudbury has always supported women’s hockey, and this week will be no different,” said Cora Babij, co-chair of the 2019 Esso Cup host organizing committee. “It’s wonderful that the community will be able to show its support for teams from across the country. We’re ready to welcome players and fans to Sudbury, and show them all we have to offer.”
