With Spring Camp just over a month away the Westshore Rebels roster is shaping up nicely for the 2019 season, and they just had another big win with the signing of USport Quarterback Colby Henkel.
Colby is a 6’3 Quarterback from Stone Plain, Alberta who was BCFC and CJFL Rookie of the Year when he played for the Kamloops Broncos. He threw for 171 completions for 2,186 yards and had 17 touchdowns. Last season he went on to play Quarterback for the University of Windsor.
“I am excited to be playing for the Rebels this season. It will give me the best chance to become the best Quarterback and person I can be by being around a great team with highly experienced coaches,” states Henkel.
Offensive Coordinator JC Boice is confident the Rebels are going to improve over last season, and has set the bar high to once again win the Cullen Cup. With additions like Colby Henkel, and other stand outs like Brycen Mayoh (REC/RET) from the University of Calgary Dinos and the 2017 BCFC Offensive MVP, Jesse Zajaros (LB) from the University of McMaster Marauder’s and Polis Koko (DB) from Regina Thunder and the University of Regina Rams the Rebels roster is full of talent.
“Our staff all agreed Colby was going to be our guy and we targeted him very early in the process. As a former BCFC Rookie of the Year and U Sport University starting QB Colby brings substantial experience and proven success. He is big, strong and very tough. He has exceptional pocket presence, accuracy and decision making. I really trust Colby’s ability to put the ball into play for us. He has a super talented receiver corps to work with and he is going to help them make a lot of very big plays. Most importantly our staff believes in Colby’s leadership. We are elated Colby chose Westshore and we believe he is the perfect fit for us.”, states Coach Boice.
