The Victoria City Rowing Club is proud to announce that Under 19 Men’s eight and 50+ Women’s eight earned gold medals at the 2019 Windermere Cup / Opening Day Regatta this past weekend in Seattle, WA.
In the U19 Men’s eight; Willow Workman, John DesBrisday, Adam Marcovitz, Micheal Keane, Samuel Shipley, Alexander Gonin, Owen Marcovitz, Spencer Thomas and Tai Kilpatrick, had a great race. “It was a tight race in which we really had to push ourselves,” said Willow Workman following the race. “We got the lead of the start, but the other crews kept pushing us all the way to the finish line.” The last time VCRC won the U19 Men’s eight was in 2004.
Representing VCRC in the 50+ Women’s eight; Jane Gumley, Brenda Taylor, Julie Platt, Jessica Gonin, Cheri More, Jennifer Wallinga, Katie Steenman, Kathleen Heddle and Larissa Biestental. “The atmosphere of the regatta was an amazing experience.” said two-time Olympic gold medalist Brenda Taylor. “We had a lot of fun and watching the U19 Men’s eight win after us from the water was very exciting.”
