VICTORIA – University of Victoria men’s golfer Robin Conlan climbed 11 spots in the rankings after shooting his second-straight 68 (-4) score to sit in fourth overall after Day 3 of the Canadian University/College Golf Championship at Firerock Golf Course in Komoka, Ont.

“The men battled hard out there today and were really strong out of the gates gaining a few shots early in the round on the leaders,” said Vikes head coach Justin Clews. “Unfortunately, collectively we struggled on the last five holes as a team and gave some shots back. When we finished it was looking like we would have a big gap to overcome to catch the leading teams tomorrow, but the final pairings of UBC, Laval and Western behind us also struggled to finish their rounds and allowed us to creep closer to leaders, and only six shots back.”

Conlan had five birdies in his third round to finish with a 68 (-4) and just three shots back of leader Charles Fitzsimmons of Western. Conlan is one stroke behind Laval’s Baptiste Mory who holds third place.

Rookie Vike Max Murchison shot a 73 to finish 2-under-par and tied for ninth. Murchison birded two-straight holes coming in on the back nine. Vike Josh Miller shot a 73 to improve to 21st spot in the individual standings, after carding five birdies, while a tough back nine held him back from climbing further. Vike John Morrow shot his lowest score of the tournament, 70, and had four birdies on his front nine and two on the back. Brandon McManus finished with a 73 to sit tied for 30.

“Robin played great today leading the Vikes and he’s really clicking with his game right now,” added Clews. “It was also great to see John with an under-par score today to help contribute to our under-par team score. Tomorrow we just need to be patient and attack the pins when we can, stick to the game plan we’ve had all week.”

The individual champions in the women’s and men’s competitions receive exemptions into their respective Canadian Amateur Championship.
