The pools and match schedule have been announced for the HSBC France Women’s Sevens in Biarritz on 15-16 June in the final round of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series 2019.
After a thrilling penultimate tournament in Langford last month, the series title is still up for grabs and three teams are still to confirm their place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics alongside host nation Japan and New Zealand who secured their spots at the HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens.
Only 18 points separate series leaders New Zealand from fourth placed Australia who both featured in the Cup final in Langford, so there is all to play for at the Stade Aguiléra.
Hosts France are currently ranked fifth in the series standings and will be looking to impress the home crowd and push for a top four spot over two days of nail-biting rugby sevens.
In Pool A, New Zealand will face England, Russia and invitational side Scotland. Pool B will see third placed Canada line up against fourth placed Australia, Spain and Ireland, and in Pool C, hosts France will battle it out against second placed USA, Fiji and China.
World Rugby Chairman Sir Bill Beaumont commented: “The final round of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series is set to be a spectacular event with not only the series champions being crowned, but three spots still up for grabs for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“It’s always exciting taking the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series to new venues and we’re looking forward to celebrating the end of what has been a fantastic season at the Stade Aguiléra where we know the fans will be passionate and the rugby world-class.”
Play gets underway in Biarritz at 12:30 (GMT +2) on Saturday 15 June with Canada taking on Spain in the first of the pool games.
