The BC Soccer Provincial Premier Cup is the finals for the BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL). The BCSPL provides an elevated level of competition for high performance players in BC. The Vancouver Island Wave franchise is made up of players from the Lower Island Soccer Association and the Upper Island Soccer Association. The BC Soccer Provincial Championships hosted by Surrey United on June 22 and 23 saw two Island teams vying for championship trophies.
Leading the way were the U15 boys, coached by Victor Ferreira, who won their match over Fraser Valley Premier 1-0. The win means the Vancouver Island Wave U15 boys will represent British Columbia at Canada Soccer’s U15 National Championships to be held in Edmonton, Alberta at Thanksgiving.
Canada Soccer hosts youth national competitions at the U15 and U17 age categories. This is the second time in the Wave franchise history that a Vancouver Island Wave team will be representing BC at Canada Soccer Nationals.
Last year’s BC Soccer Champions, the VI Wave 2003 born boys, found themselves in the finals again this year in the U16 age category. The VI Wave were successful in capturing their third consecutive BC Premier Cup title 2-0 over Coastal FC.
Finally, next year’s VI Wave program are proud to have promoted Sloan Davison, a 2006 born boy who joins the Whitecaps residency program in Vancouver full-time. Sloan joined the VI Wave program from Bays United FC. As well 2005 born girls Rory Rothnie and Ashlyn Pakos (granddaughter of George Pakos) have been promoted to the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Super REX Program in Vancouver full-time. Both Rory and Ashlyn joined the VI Wave program from the Gorge Soccer Association.
