It was a thrilling night for WLA fans on Wednesday night as the Nanaimo Timbermen overcame a 10-7 third-period deficit to defeat the Langley Thunder 12-11 in sudden death overtime. Tonight’s game leaves Nanaimo tied with New West for 3rd in the WLA with 10 points while Langley has slipped behind Coquitlam for the last place in the WLA with just 4 points.
The Timbermen were led by Jon Philips, who scored the game-winning goal for Nanaimo and finished the night with a hat trick and three assists. Sean Tyrell and Broady Eastwood both had big nights as well for Nanaimo with each of them getting four points, including Tyrell’s game-tying goal halfway through the third. Also getting in on the action was Nick Finlay, who scored two unassisted goals in the second period. In two games this year, Finlay has more goals against Langley (5) than any other team this season (1).
Dane Dobbie had seven points for the Thunder, including three goals and four assists. Aidan Milburn also had a hat trick for Langley, the first for him this season. The Thunder got a two-goal performance from Dylan Kinnear on Wednesday as Kinnear has seven goals in his last four games. In net for Langley was Steve Fryer, who made 51 saves on 63 Timbermen shots. Fryer has just one win in his last six starts and has 9.71 goals against and .828 save percentage in eight games played this season.
