Adverse weather conditions affected the start of World Rowing Cup 3 with morning racing postponed and a revised schedule of time trials held in the afternoon. The fairness committee decided on a time trials format which saw all crews racing their heats one after another in a single lane against the clock. Based on today’s time trial results, crews either advanced to the next round of racing or into the repechage.
Ellen Gleadow (Vancouver, BC) kicked off action for the Canadian team with a race win, recording the fastest split times at each 500m marker, finishing with a time of 8:19.38 and locking up her spot in the A/B semi-final tomorrow.
The Women’s Lightweight Double team, Jill Moffatt (Bethany, ON) Jennifer Casson (Kingston, ON) also advance to the A/B semi-finals with a 2nd place finish in their heat today with a time of 7:42.85.
Canada’s Women’s Eight crew booked their ticket straight to the A Final on Sunday, finishing 2nd behind New Zealand with a time of 6:37.00.
Canada’s two Women’s Four entries, CAN1 and CAN2, faced off against eachother in the opening round, finishing 3rd and 5th respectively in their heat today to progress to the repechage tomorrow.
Andrea Proske (Langley, BC) and Gabrielle Smith (Unionville, ON) raced to a third place finish in the Women’s Double heat and also head to repechage tomorrow.
Action continues tomorrow in Rotterdam with semi-final and repechage action for 5 Canadian boats. Women’s Lightweight Single A finals will also be held tomorrow following A/B semi-finals.
