Both the Tier 1 Junior B and the Junior ‘A’ Shamrocks picked up playoff wins at home Saturday. The Tier 1 squad opened their best-of-three semi final series with an 8-7 victory over the visiting Delta Islanders.
The game was close throughout with Victoria holding period leads of 4-3 and 6-4 on the way to the win. Leading the Shamrocks offensivel was Rhys MacDonald with a pair of goals with singles coming from Evan Law, Carson Echlin, Graham Goodfellow, Davis McCulley, Logan Wright and Jonathon Boyd. Nolan Dalep picked up the win in goal.
Game 2 in the series takes place Sunday on the mainland, with a deciding game 3, if necessary, scheduled for the Q Center on Tuesday, July 23.
Meanwhile the Jr. ‘A’ Rocks needed a late goal to come away with a 15-14 decision over the visiting New Westminster Salmonbellies in game 3 of their best-of-seven semi-final series. The win gives the Shamrocks a 2-1 lead in the series with game 4 taking place in New Westminster Sunday.
Teoshantathe Mccomber continues to shine since arriving and led the offense with 2 goals and 4 assist. Zach Manns chipped in a goal and 4 helpers with Brian Robb, Austin Madronic, Patrick Dodds, and Jackson Boyd each scoring twice.
Singles came from Ben Preston, Caleb Kueber, Casey Wilson and Liam Phillips with Cameron Dunkerley picking up the win in goal. The series returns to Victoria for game 5 next Saturday with that game being played at the Save-On Foods Memorial Center.
In the other Jr. ‘A’ semi final, Coquitlam held on for a 10-9 win over the Nanaimo Timbermen to take a 2-1 series lead with game 4 in Nanaimo Sunday before the series returns to the mainland.
