Thompson Rivers University WolfPack recruit Frederico Martins came off the bench to help his Portugal team win their second straight game at the 2019 FIBA U-18 European “B” men’s basketball championships.

On Saturday (July 27),  Portugal dumped Hungary 73-62.

The Portuguese led 20-14 after the first quarter and were up by five (38-33) at the half.  Portugal outscored the Hungarians 20-10 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 58-43.

Martins played 23:47 and scored 12 points. He had three rebounds (two on offense), had two steals, one assist and had a 27.78 shooting percentage from field goal range (5 for 18).  He didn’t go to the free throw line at all in this game.

 

Portugal will meet another unbeaten team in Sweden on Sunday  (July 28).  Sweden beat Kosovo 76-60 and opened the tournament with a 97-69 victory over Austria.

 

Martins will begin his first Canada West season with the WolfPack in September.  This is his second time with Portugal’s national team. He represented his country at the U-16 championships.
