Canada is playing for bronze in both the men’s and women’s sitting volleyball events today at the Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru.

In the semis yesterday, the men were defeated by USA 3-0, and the women’s team fell in straight sets to Brazil. Both teams won bronze at the 2015 Parapan Am Games in Toronto and now have their sights set on repeating that result.

“Obviously our goal was to win, but since that’s not going to happen our goal is to come out with some hardware. Third place is still quite the achievement,” said Canada’s men’s team captain Doug Learoyd. “I think we’re going to look at this Parapan American Games, and realize at times we played really well and if we reach that same level of performance, we have a really good shot to qualify at the last-chance qualifier.”

Canada did not qualify for the 2020 Paralympics from this tournament, but will have another chance to do so at a later date.
