The Victoria Shamrocks kicked the 2019 Mann Cup off in style with a 13-6 win over the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers on Friday night before a capacity crowd of nearly 3000 at the Q Centre.
The Shamrocks led the contest 4-1 after one period, and 9-3 after two.
Chris Boushy and Connor Robinson each had 3 goals and 1 assist on the night, while Casey Jackson enjoyed a triumphant return to the Shamrocks line-up with 1 goal and 3 helpers. Chris Wardle chipped in with a pair, while Marshal King, Tyler Burton, Liam Patten, and Tyler Pace all scored in the win. The Lakers goals came from six different sources in the loss.
WLA playoff MVP Peter Dubenski was back at it again on Friday night as he earned the Shamrocks game star honour. Dubenski turned aside 61 of the 67 shots the Lakers fired his way. Mike Poulin suffered the loss in goal for Peterborough as he stopped 40 shots on 52 Shamrocks attempts.
Game two is right back at the Q Centre tonight, the game is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
There are plenty of standing room tickets available for the contest. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and visit the Phillips Brewing Mann Cup beer tent located on the grass directly across from the main entrance of the Q Centre. After a day off on Sunday, the series will resume with games 3 and 4 on Monday and Tuesday nights.
