The first and only official PACWEST golf tournament was hosted this past weekend by the Camosun Chargers. This was the final tune up tournament before the PACWEST championship next weekend hosted by the Douglas Royals.

Following Day 1 on Saturday Nolan Richardson of the VIU Mariners was the leader in the clubhouse after shooting a 73, just one shot better than Josh Legge of the Royals and two strokes better than Alex Cordero and Tyler Robertson (pictured) of the Chargers.

On the team leaderboard after Day 1 the Chargers at 309 sat five strokes better than the Mariners who finished with a team score of 314. The Royals shot a 320 good for third place followed by the Langara Falcons at 326.

Day 2 on Sunday brought some different results on the Highland Pacific Golf Club.

The Chargers used full advantage of the home course as fifth year veteran Tyler Robertson shot a tournament low 70 and captured the men’s title with a two-day total of 145.

The clubhouse leader Nolan Richardson collected a 75 and finished three strokes behind Robertson and finished second with a total of 148. Alex Cordero of the Chargers claimed a 74 on Sunday and finished third with a 151.

The top Langara Falcon over the weekend was John Jamieson who shot a 78 and 77, finishing tied for sixth at 155. He was tied with the top Royal, Josh Legge who shot a 74 and 81.

The final team results looked similar to Day 1. The Chargers clinched with a two-day total of 617, followed by the Mariners at 626. Both the Royals and Falcons tied for third finishing with a 648.

On the women’s leaderboard only four players competed and last year’s PACWEST champion Alex Foston of the Mariners continues to be the one to beat.
She led the pack after Saturday’s round with an 81. Her teammate Victoria Ross was hot on her heels with an 83 and Mariah Netzer, also a Mariner shot a 96. Natalee Okamura of the Langara Falcons shot a 105.

On Sunday the leaderboard didn’t change. Foston captured the tournament title with a 79 and 160 total. Ross shot an 86 and finished with a 169 while Netzer tallied a 183 and Okamura a 220.

This coming weekend the PACWEST championship tournament will be played at the University Golf Club in Vancouver and hosted by the Royals.
