October 4, 2019 Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Varsity Belmont Bulldogs, still looking for some bite half way through their seven-game BC Highschool Football season, dropped a 36-0 decision to the Vancouver College Fighting Irish at Goudy Field on a wet Friday afternoon.
Vancouver College has dominated South Vancouver Island so far this year, last week defeating the Mount Douglas Rams 35-14.
The Irish, not wasting any time to get on the scoreboard, would strike over the middle on their first snap of the game on their way to a comfortable 28-0 halftime score.
Belmont’s defense would rise to the occasion in the second half, holding Vancouver College to one major in the final half of play, but would be unable to find any answer to the Irish defense to put together any sustained threat. QB Jayden Playfair would stand out in the second half, coming in for the injured starter Simon Hales. Playfair, able to extend the Bulldogs play with his scrambling ability, would give his side glimmers of opportunity.
With what some would call a re-building year for the varsity program after missing the 2018 season, the Bulldog loss leaves the Langford squad still looking for their first win of the season.
The Bulldogs will look again next week for their first victory when they take on their cross town rival Mount Douglas Rams ( 1-2 ) on home turf, under the lights at Goudy Field October 11th. Game time is set for 7 pm.
