The Victoria Royals defenceman Nolan Bentham has been named to Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Team for the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

 

The annual tournament takes place from November 2nd-9th in Medicine Hat, AB and Swift Current, SK. The tournament will feature three Canadian teams – Canada Black, Canada Red and Canada White. The rosters for the three squads will be finalized at a later date.

 

A native of Victoria, BC, Bentham is in his rookie season with the Royals and has recorded six penalty minutes in seven games.

 

The 6-3, 190 lb defender was one of 112 players to attend Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Development Camp this past Summer in Calgary, AB. Bentham also participated in the 2019 Canada Winter Games last February with Team BC and collected four assists and four penalty minutes in seven contests.

 

The 2003-born blueliner spent last season with the Yale Hockey Academy Midget Prep Team of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. Bentham played in 36 games with Yale and collected 18 points (7g-11a) to go along with 22 minutes in penalties.

 

Bentham was Victoria’s first round pick, selected 13th overall at the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.
