It was a three-year stretch that culminated with Saskatchewan reaching the top of university hockey in Canada.
The 1980-83 Saskatchewan Huskies entered the Canada West Hall of Fame Monday, as the conference acknowledged Saskatchewan’s string of three straight CW banners, along with the program’s crowning achievement of winning the 1983 national title.
Saskatchewan’s early-80s string of dominance began in 1980-81 when the Huskies broke through with a conference banner. They would repeat in 1981-82, but came up just short of a national title both years with losses to Moncton in the national final.
The Huskies national breakthrough came in 1982-83, when they made it back to the national final, this time downing Concordia 6-2 to claim the program’s first CIAU banner.
