Two more women’s teams have secured their berths to the Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western.
Team Thompson (Kamloops) and Team Richards (Kelowna/Prince George/Victoria) have secured the tour spots. Team Thompson features skip Karla Thompson, third Jodie Brennan, second Amanda Guido and lead Lanette Nordick. The Richards team features skip Brette Richards, third Blaine De Jager, second Steph Jackson-Baier and lead Rachelle Kallechy.
The Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western, takes place at Cranbrook’s Western Financial Place from January 28-February 2.
The berths were available through the BC Women’s Curling Tour points race, which was over on Nov 11. However an out-of-province event this past weekend had the potential to shake things up. But the results at the Red Deer Curling Classic kept the standings status quo.
That’s because the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) points leader Team Brown, who were also in the lead on the BC Women’s Tour, made the playoffs at the Red Deer Curling Classic. The results meant they kept the CTRS berth to the Scotties. The total CTRS points for the team of skip Corryn Brown, third Erin Pincott, second Dezaray Hawes and lead Ashley Klymchuk has yet to be calculated but it will be over the 100 point mark.
The second-place team on the tour, Team Wark, had already qualified for the BC Scotties as the defending champions. That left Team Thompson, in third place on the tour, and Team Richards, the fourth-place team, with the tour berths.
Team Sarah Wark, from Abbotsford, features third Kristen Pilote, second Carley Sandwith and lead Jen Rusnell.
A total of eight berths are available for the Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship presented by Best Western. Two open playdown events – Dec. 13-15 in Abbotsford and Jan. 3-5 in Enderby – will decide the remaining four berths.
The 2020 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western, along with the 2020 BC Men’s Curling Championship, will take place at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook from January 28 to February 2. The men’s event is a 16-team triple-knockout and the women’s event is an 8-team round robin.
