Junior Varsity Game

This past Saturday, the Mount Douglas Junior Varsity Rams captured the 2019 AAA Junior Varsity Provincial Championship with a 41 to 21 victory over Lord Tweedsmuir.  The Rams defeated a very talented Tweedsmuir team, which makes the win a tremendous accomplishment on the big stage of B.C. Place Stadium.  The Provincial Title gives the JV team a perfect 11 and 0 record for 2019 season.

After Lord Tweedsmuir opened the scoring, the Rams rallied with 3 straight touchdowns and led at halftime by a score of 28 to 14.   Hunter Swift passed for 2 first half touchdowns and Miltiadis Koulelis rushed for 2 touchdowns in the opening half.  The Rams had 2 players rush for 100+ yards, with Hunter leading the way with 143 yards on the ground, followed by and Milti with 101 yards.  Kainin McNay capped off the Rams scoring with a touchdown run in the 4th quarter.  In the passing game, Hunter was 7 of 11 for 116 yards and 2 touchdown passes.  Bryce Reuther was the leading receiver with 3 catches for 61 yards and 1 touchdown, while Milti had 2 catches for 30 yards.  Giovanni Linuzzi had a touchdown reception of his own.  On the defensive side of the ball, the Rams forced 4 turnovers all via interceptions.  Marino Dujela had the game of his young high school career on the biggest stage, and had the hat trick of 3 interceptions, and led the team in tackles with 9.  TJ Daw and Bryce Reuther had 6 tackles each, followed by Kayden Harris, Tyson Champion and Kainin McNay with 5 tackles each, and Jakob “Panda” Dore with 4 tackles.  Kainin also had an interception of his own, and rumbled 70 yards setting up his TD run.  Giovanni Linuzzi was outstanding handling the kicking duties for the Rams, and was 4 of 5 in convert kicks.

Several Rams were recognized for their efforts in the contest following the AAA JV Subway Bowl game :

Marino Dujela – Outstanding Lineman

Hunter Swift – Outstanding Back

Miltiadis Koulelis – Outstanding Player

This was tremendous team effort, and the players were well deserving of being Provincial Champions.  Playing at BC Place Stadium proved to be a terrific experience!  The title marks the 9th Provincial Championship for the Rams Football program (JV & Varsity) since 2009.
