The main draw is now set for the 2019 Girls Tsumura Basketball Invitational at Langley Events Centre.
The St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights (who needed overtime), the Argyle Pipers, Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers and Valleyview Vikings won their respective play-in games on Wednesday, the opening day of the 20-team tournament at Langley Events Centre.
Argyle Pipers 85 Fleetwood Park Dragons 53
A dominant second quarter which saw them outscore Fleetwood Park 23-7 helped the Argyle Pipers build an insurmountable 30-point lead on their way to the 85-53 victory. Hope Pearmain (17 points) and Julia Gocal (16 points) were top scorers for the Pipers with the Dragons’ Priyanca Sundher finishing with a game-high 27.

St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 74 Panorama Ridge Thunder 71 (overtime)
The St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights were pushed to overtime before Bella Gaspar’s three-pointer snapped a 66-66 tie as the Knights silenced the Panorama Ridge Thunder 74-71. Gigi Gaspar scored 18 to lead the Knights and Cassiel Penalosa chipped in with 18. Arman Dulai led all scorers with 38 points for the Thunder and Anjenna Dhaliwal had 18.
Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers 78 Burnaby South Rebels 64
Alyza and India Aikins were too much for Burnaby South to handle as the Lord Tweedsmuir duo combined for 58 of their team’s 78 points in a 78-64 win. Alyza Aikins finished with 31 while India Aikins had 27, including 16 in the third quarter alone. Zyre Aspiras led Burnaby South with 13 points, a dozen of which came from beyond the arc.

Valleyview Vikings 85 Earl Marriott Mariners 66
Tied at 25 after one quarter, the Valleyview Vikings seized control over quarters two and three, outscoring the Earl Marriott Mariners 51-29 over those 20 minutes to win 85-66. The trio of Jaya Sayora (27 points), Indigo Learie (22 points) and McKenna Reeves (17 points) led the Vikings attack. Esmeray Demibas had 21 to top all Mariners scorers.
Day 2 schedule
Thursday’s main draw begins at 3 p.m. and features Walnut Grove against Heritage Woods and Brookswood versus St. Thomas More. At 4:45 p.m. Terry Fox takes on Langley Christian and Okanagan Mission against Argyle.
The evening’s final games tip off at 8 p.m. when Kelowna battles Lord Tweedsmuir and Riverside squares off against Britannia.

Two other games begin at 1:30 p.m. with Burnaby South playing Earl Marriott and Fleetwood Park against Panorama Ridge.
