On January 5, the BC Junior Lacrosse Association held their Entry Draft in Langley. Eight Junior A teams selected 48 graduating midget players from across the Province.
The Nanaimo Timbermen selected 8 players – 2 from the Peninsula Minor Lacrosse Association (Jace Francis and Dawson Sears), 2 from Saanich (Joshua Fredette and Colton Walmsley), 3 from the Oceanside (Brenden Jamieson, Blake Beatty, and Kohl Krastel) and Owen Robertson from Maple Ridge.
Nanaimo picked up an extra draft pick by trading goaltender Colin Jeffrey to the Port Coquitlam Saints in exchange for the 12th overall pick and future considerations. Nanaimo used the number 12 pick to select Joshua Fredette.
Jace Francis was the top player selected on the Island.
The Nanaimo Junior A and Junior B Tier 1 Timbermen have been improving over the past few years. Both teams played well in the playoffs in 2019 and should be very competitive in 2020.
Assessments will begin in March and Dave Bremner has reminded all players to come to camp in good shape and ready to compete.
