Curling Canada will use its long-established Canadian Team Ranking System to decide the third Wild Card teams for the 2021 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier, presented by AGI, it was confirmed today.

Previously, it was announced that the 2019-2020 Canadian Team Ranking System would determine the first and second Wild Card teams that will be added to the 2021 events in Calgary.

“We needed to take our time and do our due diligence on this selection process,” said Katherine Henderson, Chief Executive Officer of Curling Canada. “In the end, it was decided that we created the Canadian Team Ranking System for exactly these purposes. It is a proven system with a history that we use for all of our other selection processes, and ultimately, from a consistency standpoint, it makes the most sense for this situation.”

The three Wild Card teams for each event — the 2021 Scotties Tournament of Hearts is scheduled for Feb. 19-28 while the Tim Hortons Brier runs March 5-14 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary — will be declared once all 14 Member Associations have decided their teams that will play in Calgary.
