The game marked the home opener for the Rebels, who have high hopes for a winning season, but are however faltering early, looking for a solution that will right their ship.  With Saturday’s loss, Westshore falls to 0-2 early in the season.  For the Huskers, the win improves their record to 2-1 in the BCFC standings.

The loss marks only the third time the Rebels have dropped a game to the Valley Huskers since 2015, enjoying an 8-2 record against the visiting team.

Westshore’s Kieran Poissant would open the scoring in the first quarter with some nifty foot work after taking starting Rebels QB Colby Henkel’s pass on about the Husker’s fifty yard, beating three defenders to run half the field for the major to take the lead. Poissant would be rewarded for his first quarter TD and other game efforts with the Westshore Rebel’s Player of the Game.

The Huskers would respond quickly at the one-minute mark of the second quarter, and add a single to go up 7-8.

In a back-and-forth battle for field position, the Huskers would blink first when the Rebel’s Broxx Cornia would run it in from about ten yards out,  breaking a tackle to roll into the endzone to put his team up 14-8 at the half.

The Rebels would continue to advance field most of the second half of play however multiple penalties, some to the major variety, would negate any chance at an endzone play.

The Husker’s would hang around keeping pressure on the home squad in the third quarter, and would be reward for their defense with a touchdown to take their first lead of the game, going up 15-14. The Rebel’s field goal kicker Marco Dizy would give his team a slim lead again, going up 17-15 after three quarters of play.

The Valley Huskers would add another TD in the final frame to take the match 22-17.
