The Camosun Chargers men’s and women’s basketball teams welcomed the Langara Falcons on Sat. Nov. 13, 2021 for their only home matchup of the season between the teams.
Coming off their first win of the season, the women’s team was thirsty to make it two in a row. Tegan Michel (Victoria, BC/Oak Bay High) led the Chargers at the half with nine points, while Tamiya Ness (Smithers, BC/Smithers Secondary) picked up nine rebounds. Although down a bucket at half, the team put on the pressure and finished with a 57-70 win. Chelsea Espenberg (Kelowna, BC/Kelowna Secondary) led the Chargers with 17 points and Sadie McMillan-Stowards (Victoria, BC/Oak Bay High) picked up 14 points along with 12 rebounds.
The men’s team also came into the day with their first win last night. At the half, Chargers led 41-32. Takeshi Crooke (Victoria, BC/Reynolds Secondary) put up 12 points and Jake Wilmott (Victoria, BC/St. Michael’s) picked up 10 rebounds. The Falcons came out hot to start the second half and made it a tight game, but the Chargers prevailed, defeating the Falcons 67-80. Jaime Polomos Molins (Victoria, BC/Oak Bay High) finished with team high 20 points, while Wilmott came away with 17 rebounds and 11 points.
The Chargers basketball teams are on the road next weekend visiting the Capilano Blues on Friday and Saturday. Women tip off at 6pm (Fri.) and 1pm (Sat.), while the men are 8pm (Fri.) and 3pm (Sat). These games can be streamed on the PACWEST website.
