Langley Events Centre – The St. Michaels University School Blue Jags are the top seed for next week’s Junior Girls Basketball Provincial Invitational Tournament.

The Saanich school was awarded the No. 1 seed among the 24 teams competing March 2 to 5 at Langley Events Centre.

Joining the Blue Jags in the top 10 pre-tournament rankings are the Seaquam Seahawks (Delta), Okanagan Mission Huskies (Kelowna), South Kamloops Titans, Reynolds Roadrunners (Vancouver Island), Yale Lions (Abbotsford), Pacific Academy Breakers (Surrey), Little Flower Academy Angels (Vancouver), Walnut Grove Gators (Langley) and the Sir Alexander Mackenzie Cubs (Hagensborg).

The rest of the competing teams include (in alphabetical order): Abbotsford Traditional Titans, Brookswood Bobcats (Langley), Burnaby South Rebels, Duchess Park Condors (Prince George), Handsworth Royals (North Vancouver), Heritage Woods Kodiaks (Port Moody), Holy Cross Crusaders (Surrey), Kelowna Owls, M.E.I. Eagles (Abbotsford), Notre Dame Jugglers (Vancouver), Oak Bay Breakers (Victoria), Panorama Ridge Thunder (Surrey), St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints (North Vancouver) and the  St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights (Burnaby).

The top eight teams receive an opening round bye, with the remaining 16 teams squaring off to see which teams will join them, with all those games played on the opening day. Following Wednesday’s results, the teams will then be separated into three eight-team brackets: the Championship Bracket (for first to eighth place); the Showcase Bracket (ninth to 16th place); and the Rivalry Bracket (17th to 24th place).

All fans 12 years and older must also show proof of double vaccination and all spectators ages five and up are required to wear a mask when inside the facility. The games are also available to stream via pay-per-view at tfsetv.ca.
