The Victoria Royals hosted the Spokane Chiefs on Friday, which they won 7-3. The two games series against Spokane are the most important games of the season as they decide if the Royals clinch a playoff spot. Tyler Palmer secured the win stopping 25 shots out of 28. Mason Beaupit on the other hand stopped 22 shots out of 28. The Royals were celebrating their ‘Superhero Salute’ night where they thanked the first responders who made it possible for everyone to be there.
The Royals were quick to jump and take the lead with Evan Patrician scoring first picking up his 9th with Assists from Reggie Newman and Anson McMaster. The canons would keep firing as the Royals were able to score again as Marcus Almquist got free and scored on the breakaway scoring his 6th goal of the season. Three minutes late they found the back of the net once again. Gannon Laroque got the rebound and did not miss scoring his 10th of the season. With assists from Tarun Fizer and Caleb Willms. Marcus Almquist picked up his second goal of the night from a cross-crease pass to make it a 4-0 game. Spokane fought back and got two goals coming from Chase Bertholet (24th goal), and Nick McCarry (23rd goal).
The second period swung by and it was Peach who scored quickly reassuring Royal’s lead and picking up his 37th goal of the season. Spokane got one back with Cade Hayes picking up his 8th of the season. The Chiefs would continue to add pressure in hopes of tying the game. The third period came by with the Royals putting the nail in the coffin as Tanner Scott broke free and scored making it 6-3 and picking up his 14th goal. Tarun Fizer then sealed the deal for Victoria making it 7-3 on an empty netter scoring his 16th goal.
Saturday’s game will be the biggest game all season, everything comes down to the wire against Spokane. The game starts at 7:05 pm and the Save on Foods Memorial Centre.
