The Victoria Royals have unveiled their uniforms for this year’s Pink in the Rink game, which will be held this Friday night when the team hosts the Vancouver Giants at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
Pink in the Rink, which is being presented by Mayfair Optometric, is one of the club’s longest-running theme nights, generating over $350,000 in funds towards organizations supporting cancer treatment and research since its inception in 2009.
This year the team will be donating $1 from every ticket sold and proceeds from a jersey auction to the BC Cancer Foundation.
The event provides a great opportunity for the team and community to engage with a cause that goes far beyond the game of hockey:
“It really makes my heart swell,” said William Litchfield, Executive Director of BC Cancer Foundation, Vancouver Island. “Every year it gets more exciting. It’s really about that fan engagement that makes this event so special. Everybody has a cancer story or has been touched by cancer in some way and for the Royals to take up that cause and share it with the community is unbelievable.”
This year’s jerseys are styled in a “graffiti” theme, featuring pink and light blue designs on the shoulders and arms over a black base with a pink Royals “lion’s head” logo on the chest. All the uniforms worn during the game will be available for purchase through an online auction.
“This game is one of the most important highlights of our schedule every season,” said Victoria Royals General Manager and Head Coach Dan Price. “Every member of the team, whether it be players, staff or volunteers, will have important people in their hearts and on their minds for this game in support of the BC Cancer Foundation. I know this will be true for all of our fans as well. The building is going to be full of passion and energy on Friday. It’s going to be emotional and it’s going to be special, that’s for sure.”
Puck drop for Pink in the Rink presented by Mayfair Optometric is set for 7:05 pm on Friday, Feb. 10. Tickets for the game will cost just $15 and are available for purchase at the following link.
The auction for the jerseys is currently open and bids will be accepted until Friday, February 17 at 11:45 pm PST at the following link.
