The Victoria Shamrocks are excited to announce the signing of Bennett Smith from the Edmonton Miners of the Rocky Mountain Junior A Lacrosse League where he led the team as Team Captain in their historic run to the 2022 Minto Cup final in Brampton, Ontario. The Miners drew a lot of attention in Brampton with their outstanding play and their captain was front and centre, earning a tournament all-star berth alongside Shamrocks forward and new teammate Casey Wilson.

Smith, at 6’1″ and 195 pounds, is a left-handed defender who, along with his leadership attributes, plays a strong, gritty game fuelled by a fierce competitive streak that is tempered by discipline and a strong lacrosse IQ. He’s effective both on defense and in transition and is widely regarded as a blue-chip prospect who is ready to take the next step in his lacrosse career.

He is currently finishing his senior year at Queen’s University of Charlotte in North Carolina where he plays for the Royals under the tutelage of former Shamrocks player Chris Panos.

We couldn’t be happier to add a player of Bennett Smith’s calibre to our young lineup,” said Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch. “He’s an elite player who was widely sought after and there’s no doubt he has a very bright future in our sport. I know our fans are really going to appreciate what a special player he is and enjoy watching him play in the green and white for hopefully a long time to come.”

The Shamrocks’ 2023 season starts on Friday, May 26th at 6:45pm against the Langley Thunder.
