June 7,2023 Victoria, BC – January 20th, 2024 the attention of the hockey world will turn to Victoria, as the Hockey Day in Canada Celebration will be back in British Columbia for the first time since 2016.
Representatives from Rogers, Sportsnet, Scotiabank, as well as officials of the city of Victoria gathered on Ships Point in the inner harbour to make an announcement earlier this afternoon; Hockey Day in Canada comes to the coast. Ships Point will be the main location for the 5 day event which will conclude with a 13 hour broadcast on Saturday. Throughout the broadcast, all 7 Canadian NHL teams will play, as well as the local WHL team; the Victoria Royals.
Although the sport itself is crucial, in the upcoming year mental health and Indigenous acknowledgement will be two major focal points. Hockey Day in Canada is big win for the city of Victoria, and the event promises to be something everyone can enjoy. With nearly 100 years since the Victoria Cougars won the Stanley Cup, locals have some NHL presence to look forward to once again on the island.
