We are excited to announce that KidSport Greater Victoria is being supported by local kayaker Scott Macdonald in the upcoming Race to Alaska (R2AK). This June, Macdonald will be raising funds for KidSport while paddling a 1200 km race from Port Townsend, Washington to Ketchikan, Alaska.
KidSport Canada is a national charitable organization that helps remove financial barriers for kids to participate in organised sports. The organization’s local chapter provides grants for children in financial need in the Greater Victoria area to participate in sports programs.
Macdonald’s partnership with KidSport Greater Victoria aims to raise awareness and funds for the organisation. “I’m thrilled to partner with KidSport Greater Victoria and use the Race to Alaska as a platform to support their important work,” says Macdonald. “I have seen the great work that they do in the community as a coach at the Victoria City Rowing Club. Every kid deserves the opportunity to participate in sports. I’m excited to help make that a reality.”
Drawing on a lifetime of experience in water sports, Macdonald is ready to take on the challenge of the R2AK. With the support of local company Blue Dog Kayaking and KidSport Greater Victoria, Macdonald is confident that he can complete the race and make a meaningful contribution to this important cause.
“Inspiring individual fundraising efforts like Scott is embarking on have been invaluable to our organization over the last couple of years,” says Jill Shaw, Executive Director of KidSport Greater Victoria. “We are seeing very significant demand for our support through the first few months of 2023 – children and youth are ready to get back to sport in a big way, and local families are facing very difficult financial challenges. We are truly wowed by the plans Scott has ahead, and incredibly grateful for his support of our work. Funds raised through this effort will be key in helping us continue to help local families.”
