The Western Hockey League announced today Victoria Royals forward Alex Edwards has been suspended 25 games for a match penalty on Everett Silvertips defenceman Dexter Whittle during WHL Regular Season game #11 on Saturday, September 23.
The incident occurred at 10:41 of the second period. Edwards was assessed a match penalty for intent to injure on the play.
In addition to the severity of Edwards’ actions, other key factors considered in the decision include the severe injury to the opponent on the play and the fact Edwards is a repeat offender, having been suspended twice previously last season.
Edwards will be eligible to return to the Royals lineup for WHL Regular Season game #280 on Friday, December 1, 2023.
