The Victoria Highland Dancing Association (VHDA) hosted their annual Spooky Competition on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Lambrick Park Church in Victoria, BC. The event attracted dancers of all ages and levels, who showcased their talent and skill in various dance categories. The competition was a celebration of the highland dancing tradition, as well as the spirit of Halloween.
The dancers impressed the judges and the audience with their performances, which were executed with precision and flair.
One of the highlights of the event was the awarding of the Bill Johnston Memorial Trophy and Bursary to Nicola Theim ( who also won first overall in her age catagory). This prestigious recognition is given to the VHDA member who accumulated the highest point total from the October 2022, February 2023, and September 2023 competitions. Nicola’s achievement is a reflection of her hard work and dedication to her craft. Our heartfelt congratulations go out to her!
Another notable achievement was by Nanaimo’s Miranda Lam and Alison McBride, who won first overall in their age categories. Both dancers impressed the judges with their grace and agility, earning them top marks in their dances.
